Changing the Narrative on Race: 12 Years Old on Halls Hill in 1959 @ Arlington County Public Middle Schools

Partnering with Arlington Humanities as a part of the Virginia Humanities grant from W.K. Kellogg Foundation, I am presenting a workshop to middle-school students.

The purpose of the workshops are to help the students understand what it was like to be an 12 year-old African American preteen during the time that the Commonwealth of Virginia was fighting the desegregation of public schools all across the state. The students will develop original songs and perform them at the upcoming Arlington Public School Black History Month event, Thursday, February 20, 2019 at W-L High School, using cigar box guitars they are constructing in their classes.

The workshops are private sessions. No public participation is allowed.

Tickets for the Black History Month Event are FREE. Register on Eventbrite.
